Review:
Saves the Day, er, Student Rick (sorry) are Victory Record's newest addition. The label was heavily criticized for picking up this Indiana act as it was their most "emo" signing yet. Much to the chagrin of long-time Victory Records fans, the label has released "Soundtrack for a Generation".

Much to my own embarrassment, I find myself actually enjoying this CD. Yea, so it doesn't really belong on the Victory Records roster, but that doesn't take away from it's great hooks and easy listening melodies. It's a great poppy punk / emo album along the lines of Saves the Day, The Get Up Kids and even Weezer. Tons of memorable lyrics will have you bobbing your head and singing along in no time. It's main problem is finding it's own identity. While it will make fans of those aforementioned bands happy, there really is nothing on the disc that separates Student Rick from their competition. Regardless, the album stands on it's own two feet just for being good mood music.

Maybe it won't be the first selection in your 5-disc changer, but once you've worn the music off of the new Get Up Kids album, try listening to the Student Rick disc. It will definitely hold you over.
