Review:
Changing their name from Scrape a few years ago, Scar Culture have been turning heads and making new fans since 1997. Among the ranks of their loyal fans is Billy Milano (S.O.D. frontman) who took the group under his wing and produced their Century Media debut effort "Inscribe". The sound quality on the disc is great, but frankly, Scar Culture doesn't need the help of clean sound or even mix to shine.

Scar Culture are a cornucopia of everything that is good about all the subgenres of metal. Pinching a bit from the brutal goregrind / death metal pool they have heavy, chunky riffs mixed with arpeggiated guitar antics and very deep, guttural vocals. Then, they dip into the hardcore scene by adding some intense breakdowns that would turn any moshpit into a warzone. Finally, from grindcore, Scar Culture have pilfered some hyperspeed blast beats and correlating guitarwork. When it all comes together, it's metal bliss, or devastation to everything which is standard, depending on how you choose to look at it. Brutal is probably the most overused descriptor for this style of music, and therefore it's meaning has been watered down quite a bit, but as hard as I try to find a synonym which accurately expressed the intensity, the energy, the power, and the crushing sensibilities that Scar Culture's music provides, I come up empty handed.
