| Manhunt, hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia, seem to be trying to sell their music by exploiting the fact that they have a female singer / screamer. The musicians themselves are fully competent on their respective instruments and are worthy of attention without relying on a gimmick to sell this demo. The guitarists are quite creative, alternating between basic mosh parts and fretboard wizardry. The drummer is on the mark. As for the singer, she does have one hell of a throat when it comes to screaming. However, when she sings, it's a whole different story. Her voice quivers and often she's way off tone. For a demo CD, these five songs are recorded really well. The packaging and artwork is nice and unlike most demo bands, Manhunt didn't go the cheap route and use CD-Rs for duplication, so even the actual CD has printing on it.. | chris - if anything i think her voice is one of the better parts of this demo... the drumming is simply awful and the songs are poorly written. i don't think the female vocals are a gimmick at all, i think she should quit and join a decent band. | | gretel - since when is a female singer a gimmick? girls are already under-represented in hardcore, let's not discourage them any futher. | | brian - i kinda agree with dan, well sorta. i think the attempt at playing math metal is rather immature, the girl has a good voice, its the fact that the music she is trying to sing on top of does not compliment her voice. i think if it was a different singer and/or she was with a different band then it would be a whole lot better. i do however completely agree on the whole "we have a girl singer" bullshit, let it go and move on. | | Rich - I can't believe you gave these guys a good rating.
