Carnal Forge - "Please... Die!"
Century Media (2001)
Carnal Forge
Genre: Melodic Thrash
Similar bands: The Haunted, Slayer

Review:
These Swedes turned a lot of heads with their last effort, "Firedemon". Attacking the melodic metal genre from a new angle, Carnal Forge focused more on the brutality and less on the beauty than similar bands, while still remaining true to their style. Boasting three fifths of the lineup of fellow Swedish metallers In Thy Dreams, the two groups seem to be compliment each other, as In Thy Dreams play with more melody and a hint of power, and Carnal Forge play with full-on force and inject just a hint of melody.

The new album, "Please... Die!", sees Carnal Forge injecting a bit more melody into the mix, while remaining nearly, but not totally, as heavy. The songs are still shorter than average and they get right to the point, with little or no frills. The vocals are almost just yelled, instead of getting really guttural or trying too hard to sound demonic. Musically, the comparison could be made that Carnal Forge sound like a faster, more brutal version of The Haunted, or a slower, more melodic version of Slayer. Either would accurately describe the high-caliber assault that Carnal Forge provide.

As a final note, it might help as a selling point, to note that three of the band members work in a mental institution. Hanging around crazy people all day says something about their own mentality. Their music is definitely for the fragile and weak.
