Review:
"A Breed Apart: On the Outside Looking In" is a punk and hardcore compilation. Naturally, as with all albums of this type, some songs are real hits and others just bomb.

Highlights of the disc include 100 Demons who are fuckin heavy as hell. Also, Through it All, which for the uninformed, is John Lockjaw's new Christian hardcore band!!! Yes, I'm talking about the same man who was in OLC and Pitboss 2000. It is odd to hear the man singing about god, but the music is just as good as his previous bands. I just try to pass it off as another one of his jokes. Crowd Deterrent are pretty heavy too with sick vocals and a crazy breakdown. One other notable track is Nothing Personal's "Wrong Hole" which is actually a hardcore song about anal sex. I've never heard anything like it, but I like.

Everything is substandard, old-school NYHC or oi punk. Tons of toughguy stuff. By far the worst track on the album is Combat 84's "Politically Incorrect". It's a total skinhead, working-class anthem song but the lyrics are laughable and the English accent (although the band is from England) only makes matters worse. It just doesn't fit with the rest of the CD.

I don't know how easy this CD will be to find and I'm not sure how much it will sell for. I'd charge about $5 and get rid of a bunch of these. They're really not worth regular CD price as many of the bands aren't worth your time, but for the serious hardcore kid who wants to expose himself to a bunch of smaller NYHC bands, this might be your ticket.
