| Beloved use rock n' roll as a foundation, on top of which they add melodic hardcore and indie stylings. Their "The Running" EP reminds me of many more prominent bands in the same vein. Sometimes similar to Saves the Day, while other times bringing to mind the likes of Grade or Boysetsfire, these boys from North Carolina play catchy music with tons of melodic hooks and "swing your head" parts, while sometimes getting a bit heavier with some throaty screaming and powerful, choppy guitars. One measure of an indie band's talent level is being able to commercially viable, but staying away from sounding like the next big pop band. Beloved pull this off perfectly. While only five songs, the EP runs for twenty five minutes and takes on many forms during it's duration, keeping it from getting dull. The artwork fits the disc perfectly and Beloved got a very professional sound quality thanks to producer Jamie King. I'm not much a fan of the emo / indie stuff, but there a few exceptional bands that I just can't deny. Beloved is one of them. As much as I tried to not let myself like them, they were simply too catchy for me. |
