| Beaten Back to Pure are another band that never let rock n roll go, while infusing it with Southern-styled blues parts. If you own a mesh hat, it's fairly safe to say that this CD will beckon you. The deep, throaty vocals remind me of Sean Ingram from Coalesce and add a nice metal element into the mix. Rather than focusing mostly on the sludgy, bluesy side of the spectrum, these guys keep it real heavy throughout using the aforemtioned traits to add a bit of flavor. The production is great. The cover artwork is gruesome as hell. It shows the bottom half of someone who just blew their brains out with a gun. Disturbing to say the least... much like the band itself. The bio, written by the band itself, says "The south is rising again". We all know this is just a figure of speech, but if the South really were becoming it's own identity and planned to seperate and combat the North for a second stint, Beaten Back to Pure's "Southern Apocalypse" would make a great soundtrack for such an event. |
