| Two and a half years in the making, this split live CD between the infamous Bad Luck 13 boys and Philly favorites All Else Failed finally surfaces via Supermodel Records. Well worth the wait, I must say. All Else Failed play four songs. This band has so much energy live and it comes through on the CD. During moments throughout the tracks, including "Burster", you can almost feel the band losing their fucking mind. For the unaware, All Else Failed play a sorta of metalcore / emo hybrid. They're heavy as shit, but sometimes they go into long, drony slow parts. That's the short version, so just check them out for yourself. And the next ten tracks belong to Bad Luck 13 Riot Extraganza (kinda lop-sided don't you think? one band gets 4 tracks, the other gets 10? whatever). They play through all the classics including "Homicidal", "Big Red Van" and "Slit My Wrists". They also play a few new songs like "Last One Standing" and "I Hate Everybody" (they may not be new now, but they were when the show was recorded). And the record kept intact all of the insane ranting that goes on between each song up on stage. Frankly, I don't think this band gets enough credit musically, since the legends surrounding their live show overshadow their songwriting. But even if they weren't known for the flaming, barbwire baseball bats or the total fucking destruction, they'd still write some amazing tunes. The frontman's vocals are so deep they're scary. The riffs are hard-hitting. What more do you need? Included for extra enjoyment is some live video footage for those owning a PC (and like I've said before, if you're reading this review, chances are you own a computer). One song by each band from the show in question, with mixed in clips from other live performances. The Bad Luck video has all the usual insanity that all their videos show, while the All Else Failed video contains a break for porno in the middle of the song. Quite interesting indeed. Couple all this with the great artwork and production of the CD and there's no reason whatsoever not to go out and pick this up. It'll make you feel good inside. |
