Review Policy:
I do not accept unsolicited submissions for review / coverage on the site. Please email me first and give me some background information about your band / label / whatever. Also, please note, that I cover certain genres on this website. Check out some of the other reviews - if you have a feeling that the band you're representing doesn't really fit with what's covered on the site, chances are they don't.

Also, while I would love to review everything thing that is sent to me, due to the amount of items I receive on a continual basis, I cannot always guarantee a review. I do try my hardest to listen to, and comment on, everything I get though. That said, the following is a list of things that will guarantee your album DOES NOT get coverage on Into-Obscurity.com:

1. Audio Interruption On The CD.
I understand that you are trying to prevent people from copying the album, but those interruptions make the CD unlistenable. I end up spending my time being annoyed at those interruptions rather than giving the album a good listen. Besides, I'm a huge opponent of CD copying, so I feel like I'm being punished for something I don't do.

2. Albums Without All Of The Songs
How do you expect me to honestly review a whole album having only heard three songs from it? I could be missing the best (or worst) songs on the album.

3. Tracks That Fade Out / Partial Tracks
This seems to be another method of trying to keep the album under wraps until release time. See above.

4. Albums Sliced Into 100 Mini-Tracks
I do reviews listening to stuff on the computer so I can skip tracks, rewind, etc. while writing. These discs don't play in my computer right because there's like a two second pause between each part of a track. Besides, as much as it may kill you to hear, I actually like to listen to some of these albums AFTER I review them... and sometimes on random :)

5. Compilations
This is a great way to introduce people to a lot of bands. But they make for terrible reviews. I hate going through them song by song and saying "This band sounds like Slayer. This band sounds like Meshuggah. Etc. Etc." and no one likes to read that either. So send them all you'd like, I love the idea of checking out new bands, but I won't review them. The only exception is when a compilation has a concept (i.e. tribute albums, etc.)

So basically, as a general rule, if the album doesn't play through without complication, I'm not going to review it. Sorry.

FAQs

Can I write reviews for Into-Obscurity.com?
I AM currently looking for reviewers. If you're interested, email me for more details, but here's a short list of preferable traits:
  • Be able to write - send a few sample reviews in the email to me
  • Have industry contacts already - this is not necessary, but if you don't have them, we'll have to work out a way for you to get stuff to review
And of course, you can always write "fan reviews". Go into any review on this website and add your own opinions to those - that would be great!

Will you review my band's MP3s?
Nope. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or patience to download all kinds of MP3s and review them while also keeping up with the CDs I get. However, if you want me to check out your MP3s, you can email me a link to them and, if I have time, I'll listen to them and email you back with some honest feedback. DO NOT email me MP3s... send links only. It sucks when your mail takes ten minutes to download because of the large attachments.

How do I sign up? How much does it cost? What are the benefits?
Signing up is easy. Just fill out this form and you're on your way. It's completely free!!!! And in case you're not sure why you should become a member, here are some benefits.

How can I get a banner ad / button on Into-Obscurity.com?
Check out this page for all the details and then email me if you have any questions, or decide to buy banner space.

Will you interview my band on your site?
No. I will not interview a band that hasn't first had a review posted on this site. Also, I only interview bands that I think are really amazing and that I'm a personal fan of. I have to be personally compelled to interview a band and normally I'll go to the band asking for an interview, not the other way around.

Will you add a link to my site from yours?
It depends. I used to have free-for-all links as long as you put a link back to my site on your page. Well, I checked a bunch of the sites in my links section a few months ago and about 80% of them had no link back to my site, so I deleted them and canned that idea. Now, I'm moving to what I'm calling an "Affiliates" program. That means, for bands and labels, only those that are covered on my site will be linked. As for other webzines and various sites, we'll have to have some sort of working relationship (even if that's just reciprocal links) before I put you on there. So get in touch and we can discuss. And one last thing, I'm not going to link to some shitty Angelfire site - show some quality in your site if you wanted it linked.

(Bands / Labels) How do I get an official forum on your messageboards?
